Cinco días con Martin 112 especies vistos. Tuvimos un poco de clima bastante frío, pero los pájaros no parecía importarle. Algunos grandes telones de fondo para el agua que visitamos con nieve en las montañas distantes. Buena comida, buen vino y buena compañía. Accomadation.All cálido y cómodo que se puede desear. Recomendar a un grande.

"Delightful hosts"

We went for the birding, but the rest of the experience did not disappoint. It's hard to believe, but El Recuerdo is even more charming than it looks in the photos. November is a beautiful time in Exremadura, the countryside green and refreshed from fall rains combined with brilliant autumn foliage makes for picture postcard views in all directions. Our 3 days of birding with Martin just flew by. His familiarity with the local environment is wide and deep; we barely scratched the surface of his birding knowledge. Next time we hope to give him more of a challenge. And just as important, he was a pleasant and easy companion. We also enjoyed our meals, good home cooking comprised of the fine local products and nicely presented. Be sure to get your fill of the homemade quince preserves.

"Lovely people, landscape and wildlife."

November might not be your first thought if booking a holiday in Extremedura, but if you can cope with less heat, you might be rewarded with a verdant landscape full of resident, migrant and wintering wildlife. When I visited less than two weeks ago the tree colours in the mountains were glorious and the towns pleasantly quiet. I stayed with Claudia and Martin for only four nights. I should have gladly stayed longer. Their house is spotless and whilst I would always encourage people to sample the local restaurants, I didn't find better food than that made by Claudia. Very nice evening meals. A great place to stay if you wish to explore northern Extremedura.

Returning for our second stay at el Recuerdo where everything was as friendly, helpful and comfortable as ever. Nice clean rooms, well decorated and with good bathrooms and showers. Ample parking and outdoor seating (when it was warm enough!). Good breakfasts complete with up to date information from Martin and Claudia of local events as well as bird sightings and locations.
